Uncovering Investor Exploitation in Gilgit-Baltistan: Government’s Role in Promoting Sustainable Development

Gilgit-Baltistan, according to Raja Pervez Ashraf, is endowed with an abundance of natural resources that may be used to generate wealth for the country’s citizens by drawing in foreign investment. In his capacity as Chairman, the Prime Minister voiced his opinions on Thursday during the Gilgit-Baltistan Council’s second meeting.

According to the prime minister, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) constantly considers the welfare and needs of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan when making decisions. He noted that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the one who instituted significant legal, administrative, and political changes as well as abolished the Federal Constituency of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He claimed that the administration had taken proactive steps to empower the people of Gilgit-Baltistan politically and to promote socioeconomic growth. One such milestone, according to him, was the introduction of the Gilgit-Baltistan (Empowerment and Self Governance) Order 2009, which gave the region’s citizens representative government.

According to the prime minister, the government of Gilgit-Baltistan is very interested in its growth and has given the government a sizeable amount of development funding in this respect. The 572 schemes of Gilgit-Baltistan that make up the current Annual Development Program projects total 64.648 billion. He added that Federal PSDP funding is being used to implement projects in the area valued at Rs 9.213 billion. He said that the Gilgit-Baltistan government has received a block allocation of Rs 7.137 billion for the current fiscal year, in addition to the Rs 902 million PSDP allocation.

Gilgit Baltistan will develop on pace with the rest of the nation, according to President Dr. Arif Alvi, if its enormous potential for tourism and investment in a variety of industries is fully realized. The President stated that the federal government was adamant about ensuring that all areas, including Gilgit Baltistan, developed uniformly while speaking to the provincial cabinet members of the Gilgit Baltistan Secretariat here.

The President congratulated GB on its newly established government and emphasized the importance of its proactive role in promoting regional growth. He claimed that the peaceful parts of Great Britain might draw both local and foreign visitors, noting that the two million visitors that the region had welcomed before to COVID-19 was encouraging.
