GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan Raises Vital Demands from PM Shehbaz Sharif in Meeting

Gilgit-Baltistan’s (GB) Chief Minister (CM) Haji Gulbar Khan made important demands from the country’s Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif in a meeting today.

According to sources, in a meeting at the PM’s House, the CM demanded that, through political reforms, GB should be given representation at the federal level. The CM demanded that the net hydel profit of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, along with water user charges, be given to GB. Haji Gulbar demanded a share for GB in the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.

Shehbaz Sharif directed the construction of Danish schools in all three divisions of Gilgit-Baltistan. He said Danish schools are being established in the region for the boys and girls belonging to the poor families. These schools will provide international quality education to the children as well as accommodation facilities.

Furthermore, as per sources, the CM demanded the pending implementation of the announced districts named Darel, Tangir, Yasin-Gupis, and Rondu. He demanded that development projects be approved for GB through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Haji Gulbar also highlighted the immense potential of the tourism sector in the region and demanded cooperation at the federal level in this regard. He also highlighted the complaints of the people about the Gilgit-Skardu road and the lack of progress on the Harpo and Attabad power projects.

As per sources, the PM assured to resolve all the issues raised by GB’s CM, especially GB’s share in the NFC Award, the net hydel profit and water user charges in the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, and strengthening the tourism sector. Shehbaz Sharif approved the formation of a committee in this regard. The committee is to soon submit a report on these issues.
